Joining a troop

If a boy asks to join Cub Scouts his sister may just ask to join Girl Scouts.

If you let a boy join Cub Scouts how do you tell the sister no to Girl Scouts.

If you let both kids do scouts......well you see where this story is going.

Cole is now a Cub Scout and Adrienne is now a Daisy. I am actually excited about them joining troops and I think it will be a fun year for them.

But there is that whole camping thing........

Playing

Cole and Adrienne have played together ALL DAY. Don't get me wrong they always play together but this is different. We have heard nothing from them except when we took them to lunch (Mexican which is their favorite) and the library.

I am waiting for the big blow up soon. I mean they have been playing since 9:30 this morning and it is now after 6:00.

Strange....but oh so nice.

I love this boy.....

Cole: Mommy how do you spell cuz?

Me: Cole cuz is not a word what are you trying to say?

Cole: It is a word

Me: Use it in a sentence

Cole: I am going to the store cuz I am out of peanut butter.

Me: Cole you mean because

Cole: Oh I know how to spell because

Cole at Dinner: "it's Steak vs. Biscuit vs. Peas vs. Gravy...but gravy has a useless army."

Starting School

School starts today at our house no matter what.

Workboxes are full.

Notebooks are sitting at the table waiting.

Assignment books have lots of neat activities in them.

I am going to make cookies before they get out of bed. How can you have a first day of school without a special treat?

Dinner is already planned and going in the crock pot soon.

It is going to be a great year. I am starting a lot of new things this year one being Nature Study notebooks which I am really excited about. I sat down with the kids a few weeks ago and said "What do you want to learn this year?" they gave some great answers and they will get most of their wishes. I just don't think we are going to be able to swing those field trips they wanted to take to Africa, Russia, and Iceland.

And we are off.......

Oh what a day........

This was not part of my plan today.

We were supposed to start school this week.

We could have played Chutes and Ladders at home we really did not need to borrow the game from the Duke Emergency Room.

Oh what a day......but now the kids are sleeping soundly and I am praying for an uneventful day tomorrow.

Good thing we got rested up this weekend.....

Adrienne is sick!!

I said to Jeremy a few minutes ago that I really don't think I have ever seen one of our kids this sick. She has been running a fever up to 103 all day. For most of the day medicine worked but since about 4:00 nothing is working. Plus we have to make sure we are keeping her blood sugar within range. Such a hard thing to do when she is refusing food.

She is miserable.

I am miserable because my Magic Mommy Powers can't fix it.

Tomorrow is a new day and I pray my sweet girl gets some relief soon.

Missing my babies!

Cole and Adrienne are in the mountains for the weekend and boy am I missing them. It has been at least a year since they have been to the mountains alone so it feels strange to have an empty house.

I took a trip to Ikea yesterday after dropping them off. I can't begin to tell you how great it was walking through that store ALONE! No little voices whining hungry, tired, bored, or "Mommy I need to go potty bad" just me all alone. I got lots of neat stuff and now I need to find a place for it all. I mainly got organizational stuff for our new school year which starts Monday!!!! Ready or not we are getting started next week.

Now I feel like I need to stay up all night crossing things off that list of things to do before the kids get home. Where is that list?

I can't wait to see their sweet faces tomorrow but this weekend has flown by.......

No Kids?

It looks like Cole and Adrienne are headed to the mountains for the weekend.

What?

No kids?

Whatever will I do with my time? We are thinking about taking a little vacation ourselves but every single place we name we look at each other and say well the kids would like to go there too.

What could we get done this weekend with no kids?

*Plan the kids homeschool year
*Get things ready to sell at the consignment sale
*A little trip to Ikea (shhh don't tell Jeremy)
*We could actually go out to dinner alone for the first time in months
*Bike rides without having to do circles around Adrienne
*Catch up on all my reading
*Donate half of the kids toys to Goodwill
*Clean out closets

Staying home sounds like too much work maybe I should find a place to go this weekend!

Forever?

Will I always have diabetes?

That is the question Adrienne asked a few days ago. Of course my answer was yes you will always have diabetes. We have talked about her diabetes and she knows that it will not go away. One thing you should know about Adrienne is her questions are never simple and a quick answer is not what she is looking for.

Adrienne gave me every chance in the world to give her the right answer but I was not catching on. "Mommy will I have diabetes FOREVER?" she asks with a big smile on her face. Finally I catch on......Mommy when I go to heaven I will not have diabetes anymore.

I am so thankful to have a beautiful girl that reminds me this earth is not our forever! One day she will no longer have to endure 6-8 finger pricks a day, shots, pod changes, and all the highs and lows that go along with diabetes. She knows there is a mighty God that is bigger than her diabetes and will one day heal her.

The Henson Family Blog

I started this blog well over a year ago hoping to keep family and friends near or far updated on what is going on with our family. Well I crashed and burned on that attempt. I have now decided this blog is for me to keep a record, to vent, or just post pictures of my amazing family. Here I go again......
