On our way to the mountains last weekend we decided to take a little side trip to Linville Caverns. The weather was not the best 60 degrees and raining but it really doesn't matter too much when you will be underground. The kids had a great time and even asked to go back on the way home Sunday.
They learned about Civil War deserters who used the caverns as a hideout, and a little geology of the stalactites, stalagmites, and other formations found in the cavern. We are studying NC History this year so we will be sure to add this to our NC notebook we are making.
We had to make our way around some tight places.....
Adrienne was fascinated with the algae that formed here.
A fire ring used during the Civil War.
No trip is complete unless you get his and hers guns!!
